DAILY DEVOTION
Today’s Bible Reading: 1 Kings 12-15, 2 Chronicles 12 – 15
1 Kings 13:11-18 (KJV); Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father… And went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I am. Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread. And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place: For it was said to me by the word of the Lord, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest. He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the Lord, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.
Our theme scripture paints a truly sad story. A young prophet died because he listened to an older prophet.
Unfortunately, this scripture has been used to justify rebellion by young ministers against older ministers. Leaning on this scripture, some younger ministers have refused to take counsel from older ministers.
Is this the mind of God?
No. God has called us to have respect for elders and most importantly, to honour ancient anointings. It doesn’t mean that because you are younger, you know or have greater graces. Rather, this analogy points to new wineskins and old wineskins in the New Testament. The newness of a wineskin was based on when it was last washed in oil.
New or old wine is defined in terms of when a man or woman last “connected” with God. If you last “connected” with the Spirit ten years ago, there is something spiritually old about you.
Youth in the spiritual realm is defined by the freshness of our experiences with God. When did you last hear Him? When did you last drown in His presence? When did He last open your eyes to the realm of eternity?

🙌PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this knowledge. Thank You for the freshness of spiritual experiences. I know that Your mercies are new every morning. Each day, I launch into new grace and deeper levels in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
