IF WE ARE THE BODY
DAILY DEVOTION
Today’s Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 30 – 31, 2 Samuel 1 – 4
2 Samuel 1:19-20 (KJV): The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen! Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.
You may have heard accounts of Christians rejoicing over the death of other Christians.
As sad and tragic as it is, I have seen believers celebrate when a minister of the gospel, with whom they disagreed, passed away.
What does the man after God’s own heart teach us?
Saul was David’s greatest enemy. Driven by jealousy, Saul attempted to kill David multiple times for no other reason than David’s evident favor from God.
Yet, when Saul died, David did not rejoice or thank God for avenging him.
Instead, the Bible tells us that he tore his clothes and mourned the death of his enemy.
In our theme scripture, he insisted it should not be announced in the streets. It was not a reason for celebration.
God does not rejoice over the death of His anointed, even when they make regrettable mistakes.
If we are truly part of the same body, we must understand His heart. The loss of any shepherd in the Church of Christ is a loss to the entire body.
💡KNOW MORE: Zechariah 13:7; Romans 12:5
⭐HIGHLIGHT: God does not rejoice over the death of His anointed, even when they make regrettable mistakes. If we are truly part of the same body, we must understand His heart. The loss of one shepherd in the Church of Christ is a loss to the entire body.
🙌PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this word. I receive it with humility, that I may learn how to treat my fellow brethren in the faith. May my walk always be one of love. As You have extended grace to me, may I extend the same to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
