THE WISDOM TO LOOK WITHIN
DAILY DEVOTION
Today’s Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 9 – 12
1 Samuel 9:1-2(KJV); Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power. And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.
Saul, by appearance was a choice king. In fact, the Hebrew name Saul is translated to mean “desired.” In many ways, Saul represented what the men of Israel desired as their king. By outward appearances, he fit the bill very neatly.
The reality however turned out to be something else. He was not the most exemplary leader. He was intimidated by the greatness in David, he became too consumed by envy that he almost killed his own son and within years of his reign, he was already rejected by God as king over Israel (1 Samuel 15:26).
Saul’s story is a lesson to us on what can truly go wrong when our judgment is based on what we see on the outside.
There are people who have found themselves in difficult relationships because they based their decisions on external appearances . Some are stranded in complicated financial situations because they picked their business partners by looking outwardly.
That should not be your testimony child of God. When you became born again, you received the wisdom to look within men and circumstances before making decisions. You have the Word of God in you that is sharper than any two edged sword, cuts asunder bone and marrow, spirit and soul and is a discerner of the intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).
You can never be duped by smooth talkers and people who are busy putting on a show for your benefit while hiding behind plastic smiles. You know how to look within and choose who to relate with, what job to accept, who to partner with and who to serve with you in ministry.
Hallelujah!
