MARRIAGE SERIES: THE PLACE OF THE HEART IN COMMUNICATION
DAILY DEVOTION
Today’s Bible Reading: Judges 19 – 21
Judges 16:18 (KJV); And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.
Good communication in marriage has many aspects. Today, I wish to point you to one of them: the importance of opening your heart to your spouse.
Why is the heart so important in the communication equation? Because the Bible tells us that “everything you do flows from it”. In other words, the heart is where our deepest thoughts, emotions, and decisions come from.
If a husband and wife don’t know each other’s hearts, it’s easy for confusion, hurt, or distance to grow.
Sometimes, couples talk to each other but their hearts are miles apart. They speak but their words never go deep. That’s because real communication is not just about exchanging information—it’s about opening up the heart.
When a husband or wife shares from the heart, they’re not just saying what happened in the day. They’re revealing what they feel, what they hope for, and what matters most to them.
And when that is received with love and understanding, something powerful happens—the bond between them grows stronger.
Heart-to-heart communication builds trust. It creates a space where both people feel accepted, and secure. Without it, a marriage may look fine on the outside, but feel empty on the inside.
As a couple, choose to go beyond surface talk. Speak the truth with kindness, listen with patience, and make it safe for each other to be vulnerable.
