HUNGER FOR MORE II
DAILY DEVOTION
Today’s Bible Reading: Joshua 7 – 9
HUNGER FOR MORE II
Joshua 5:12 (KJV); And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna anymore; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
When the children of Israel entered the promised land, manna ceased to fall.
In Deuteronomy 26:9, the Promised Land is referred to as the land flowing with milk and honey.
Did God make reference to cows for the milk? No. Did He make reference to bees for the honey? No.
This is because the Lord had a higher purpose in mind. Because manna had ceased, He wanted them to desire something much deeper.
Herein is a lesson for the New Testament believer.
1 Peter 2:2 speaks of the sincere MILK of the Word. The Psalmist in Psalms 119:103 reveals his experience with the Word, that it was sweeter than HONEY to his mouth.
Through all of this, God seeks to reveal to us that the Promised Land required another kind of hunger that could be satisfied by more than just manna.
Milk without cows and honey with no bees means that the man must walk by faith.
In this, He calls forth seekers of God whose experience in the Word is defined by a deep dive into the realms of faith. By faith, we delve into the bottomless depths of His Person; by faith we yield to truths that are unsearchable.
Hallelujah!
