HUNGER FOR MORE I
DAILY DEVOTION
Today’s Bible Reading: Numbers 30 – 31
HUNGER FOR MORE I
Numbers 11: 4-6 (KJV); And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick: But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.
When manna first fell from heaven, it was a wonder to the children of Israel and they treated it as so. This was heavenly food, available to them daily for which they did not have to labour and toil.
With time, they became familiar with this window of divine providence. They complained about the manna because it was all that was available on the menu.
But what was the problem?
The real issue was that the children of Israel had ceased to be grateful for this divine food for the simple reason that they were not digging in the wilderness.
With time, what was easily available was abused and despised. With familiarity, came contempt.
This attitude is not very different from that of some Christians today.
In our day, the Church of Christ is suffering from too much knowledge because it is easily available. They are not digging but are continuously fed and this availability of knowledge has bred a contempt for what are otherwise priceless pearls in the realm of the Spirit.
The saddest truth is that there is so much more that God wants to give. He is calling us to a deeper hunger. However, we cannot hunger for more when we still treat cheaply what is priceless.
May this wisdom teach you to treat the Word of God with reverence regardless of its availability and simplicity.
Hallelujah!
💡KNOW MORE: Psalm 27:4, Psalm 42:1
⭐HIGHLIGHT: God is calling us to a deeper hunger. However, we cannot hunger for more when we still treat cheaply what is priceless. Treat the Word of God with reverence regardless of its availability and simplicity.
🙌PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this truth. My spirit understands the bottomlessness of Your depths. It is these depths that I hunger for. Thank You for launching me deep and leading me in the paths of the unsearchable things, to the glory of Your name, Amen.
