INCLINE TO THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTION
Proverbs 4:20 (KJV): “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.”
Have you ever leaned in to listen closely to someone? That’s what it means to incline your ear.
In the Bible, when God says “incline your ear to my sayings,” the original Hebrew word used is “nata.” This word is rich with meaning. It means to: Stretch out toward the Word; Prolong your time with the Word; Extend yourself in the Word; Carry aside the Word—pull it away from all other distractions and give it personal space.
In simple terms, it’s living a life where you’re constantly soaking in the Word, not just running to it when you’re in trouble. Sadly, some Christians only open their Bibles when things go wrong—job issues, heartbreaks, health problems—and as soon as things get better, they stop. That cycle is dangerous. Why? Because a spirit that is only fed in times of crisis becomes weak and cannot sustain you when life hits hard.
The person who inclines—who stretches and prolongs their time in the Word—becomes established. That Word becomes a part of them. It saves, strengthens, and stabilizes them.
The Word isn’t just a lifeboat to rescue you from drowning. It’s the very ocean you were made to live in. It’s your daily bread, your compass, your strength.
And in John 8:32, Jesus says: “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Not the truth you read once in a while—but the truth you live in and by.
So don’t just read the Word—stretch into it. Don’t just glance—stay. Build a life where you wake up to the Word, walk in the Word, speak the Word, and sleep in the Word. That’s how the Word becomes part of who you are.

🙏 PRAYER: Father, I thank You for Your Word. Today I choose to incline— to stretch out, to extend, and to live in Your truth. I don’t want a casual relationship with Your Word. I want to be rooted and built up in it. Teach me to stay, to meditate, to grow deeper. The Word becomes part of me—saving my soul, shaping my future, and making me strong. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
