TO DARKEN COUNSEL
Job 38:1-2 (KJV); Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
Sometimes life has a way of crashing men against the rocks of tough circumstances and the hard places of even tougher choices. A situation may arise where only two terrible options glare back at you. In such places, you are faced with having to make a bad choice or a worse choice.
In these moments, it is easy to question the faithfulness of the God you have believed and the integrity of the Word that He has spoken over your life. When you do so, the Bible calls that darkening counsel.
How then does one darken counsel?
It is when one speaks out of the pain of their circumstance and not out of the understanding they have of the Word of God. When men darken counsel, they make statements such as, “Why doesn’t God love me anymore? What did I ever do to God to deserve all this suffering? Why me, why me, why me?!”
The danger with darkening counsel is that it silences the voice in your spirit that ought to tell you what to do and how to do it. The Spirit of God is our counsellor. When life presents you with bad choice A and worse choice B. He has a way of pointing you to good choice C!
Never allow yourself to tumble down the pits of despair. Never question if God is with you. Do not darken counsel. He is the ever-present help in time of need. You only need to look within to know that the answers to your predicament are not too far from you.
