DISCERNMENT OF SPIRITS
Job 4:12-16 (KJV): Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof. In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men, Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up: It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof:
Not every spiritual experience is from God.
Even the devil is in the business of giving visions and dreams to children of God. However, you must have the wisdom and discernment to know what is from God and what is from the enemy.
Our theme scripture gives us an example of how to identify whether an experience is of the true light or the false light.
Eliphaz, one of Job’s friends, narrates a vision of the night that he had. In there, fear came upon him. He trembled and his bones were shaking and then a spirit passed before his face. Then this spirit spoke to him, delivering the ‘oracles’.
Experiences from the enemy come with a deep sense of fear because fear is one of the devil’s weapons of war.
When God gives a man an experience, if that man is afraid, the Lord is quick to assure him not to be afraid. When He appeared to Mary he told her not to be afraid (Luke 1:30); In Luke 1:13, when the angel came to Zechariah, he asked him not to be afraid; In Matthew 14:27, when the disciples saw Jesus walking on water and thought it was some ghost, He immediately assured them and told them not to be afraid.
Experiences from God minister faith and never fear.
Hallelujah!
