BEING HEDGED
DAILY DEVOTION
Today’s Bible Reading: Job 1 – 4
BEING HEDGED
Job 1:10 (KJV); Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
The life of every child of God must be hedged. This was God’s great concern in Ezekiel 22:30. The Bible says, “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.”
Hedges are important because they preserve the blessing of God upon your life and ensure the increase of your substance.
What the hedge does is that it keeps out the devourer and those that are keen on destroying what God has given you.
Have you heard stories of people who say that at one point in their lives, they had so much but then one day, life dealt them a fateful blow and they lost all that they had? More often than not, the hedges around such men have been compromised.
Sudden loss is a sign that a hedge has been removed. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 10:8 that ‘whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him’. And what is the mission of the serpent? It is to steal, kill and destroy.
If you ever find yourself regressing or stagnant with no tangible addition to your life, you must question whether you are hedged. Instead of addressing the symptom, deal with the cause. This wisdom then helps you adjust your prayer, from, ‘God restore what I have lost or God increase me’ to ‘God I thank You because I am hedged and I know how to preserve the hedge around me.’
